Seasons Come, and Seasons Go

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how life happens in seasons. Parenthood, friendships, achievements, challenges…almost everything comes and goes in seasons. When we remember that and really soak it in, it seems that the harder seasons are easier to walk through, and the wonderful seasons we’re less likely to take for granted.

My husband has told me a number of times about a season he experienced that was just tough. Just one of those times when nothing makes sense and life seems far more dramatic and up-ended than it should be. He was visiting his aunt one day and asked her a simple but profound question, “If you could tell me one thing that I should know to live the rest of my life, what would it be?”

She thought for a few minutes and then, knowing nothing of his current circumstances, replied, “Remember two things: first, when you come to difficult times in life, you have to walk through them. You can’t get over it, get around it, or anything else, you have to walk through it. Second, it will not last. When things are really hard, it won’t last. And when they’re really good, it won’t last. So when things are hard, hang in there; they will get better. And when they’re great, really enjoy them; they won’t always stay the same.”

Have you found this to be true in your life? Are you in a great season right now? A tough season? A little of both? If you’re in the midst of a hard season, be encouraged! It will change! If you’re in the midst of a wonderful season, remember, it will change also. Soak it in. :)
